Mutual visits are among the highlights at Nyendo – both in Germany and Kenya. Everyone was looking forward to Walter Orlando’s visit. Walter is the headmaster of Bethany Joy School, which has 850 children in the Kangemi slum (Nairobi). From January 24 to February 3, he visited our Nyendo schools in Rosenheim and Prien and also took part in our Nyendo network retreat on Fraueninsel. When Brigitte showed him Vienna on the last day before his departure, an intense journey came to a particularly beautiful end.

Experiences, insights, and successful PR for Nyendo

The feedback from the schools was overwhelming: Walter’s presentations to the classes left a lasting impression. He not only shared insights into everyday life at a community school, but also conveyed the special attitude of people who, as change makers, are there for children every day – with heart, clarity, and unwavering hope. Afterwards, many students showed renewed interest in joining the Nyendo student companies.

Commitment and responsibility among young people

What is truly extraordinary and makes us particularly happy is that this trip was financed by the young people themselves and organized by the Nyendo team. This is responsibility in action—and a powerful sign of what is possible when young people work together to build the future.
Because that’s what it’s all about: change begins from within – in encounters, in the courage to connect, in joint action. People like Walter are beacons. And at the same time, it takes a network: many hands and hearts to make hope visible and effective.
We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this visit possible, accompanied us, and supported us.

Touching farewell words

Walter’s farewell words touched us deeply. He expressed his heartfelt thanks for the warm hospitality and open welcome he received from the entire Nyendo team. In particular, his encounters with the students in Prien and Rosenheim and the support of the coaches made his stay unforgettable. He is taking many ideas back to Nairobi with him to further develop the partner schools and is looking forward to seeing everyone again – in Germany or soon in Kenya.
Thank you, dear Walter, it was an honor.
