Youth social entrepreneurs as partners for schools in slums
The students in different semesters establish and lead independent companies. Through these companies, they operate in fair trade products from Kenya, such as coffee or African handicrafts. In addition, donations are also collected. All of the company proceeds go 100% to the African partner schools, where they are used specifically for sustainable projects. As part of an educational trip, the young people visit their African project partners and share their life in the slum with them.
We are educational pioneers who invite a new generation of young social entrepreneurs as young schoolchildren to become effective in today’s world of change, to collaborate in shaping it, and to unleash their own potential – as a team, across schools, and together with our partners. In this sense, our movement unites young people in German-speaking countries and in Kenya.
The nyendo.lernen hand in hand UG offers schools the appropriate learning and action framework via their network. Thus it creates an interdisciplinary educational offer for
- social entrepreneurship
- global development cooperation
- intercultural dialogue
Our idea & vision
We support the adolescent social entrepreneurs and their motivation to shape our world in a fair and sustainable way, with help and advice. For this purpose, nyendo offers high school and junior high school students a social entrepreneurial learning field by combining all Nyendo schools as a communication and action framework and the personal connection to one of our partner schools in the slums of Nairobi.
Partner schools in Kenya
Our African partner schools are located in the slums of Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. Nairobi is an example of the cities of the future that are typical of the world. Of its 4 million inhabitants, 80% (ie more than 3 million!) live in only 5% of the living space in the slums and fight there for survival. “It’s not about peace,” says Shabu Mwangi, slum artist and visionary, “It’s about justice and equality.”
Hidden Movers Award
nyendo.lernen was awarded the Hidden Movers Award of the Deloitte Foundation in 2018.
Further prizes, promotions and nominations:
- Sparda Bank Munich (Values Ambassador)
- startsocial (scholarship)
- taz Panther Prize (nomination)
- German Engagement Award 2019 (nomination)

Through social entrepreneurship, we help the youth to make our world fair and sustainable.
nyendo was founded with the aim of supporting the younger generation in their commitment to a peaceful and fair world. A participatory, school-based education program empowers young people to social entrepreneurship and global thinking – so that today’s youth can make a positive difference to the world of tomorrow.
What is nyendo?

Our impulse
We want to help overcome the division of the globalized society through personal encounters on an equal footing – by working together on solutions to social problems, because: if one understands humanity as a networked community of equal individuals, then each person is a responsible co-creator of our common social life reality. In this sense, we connect schools from German-speaking countries and in the slums of Nairobi through our network!
