A camera, a curious student traveling in a foreign country, and moving moments: the perfect material for a film

In spring 2025, a group of Nyendo students from Rosenheim traveled to Kenya to visit our long-standing partner schools and projects in Kangemi and Kawangware. It was all about real encounters: friendship, mutual learning, working together, and the question of how young people can take on responsibility across continents.

Nyendo student trips

Since 2012, Nyendo has been connecting schools in Germany with partner schools in Nairobi. Over many years, this has given rise not only to projects but also to relationships. The student trips are always special highlights. They make visible what otherwise often only appears in reports, figures, or stories. On site, names are given faces. A “partner school” becomes a living place. Fundraising campaigns turn into concrete stories. Encounters give rise to questions, ideas, and life-changing impulses.

Valentin makes more of his experiences

Rosenheim student Valentin Hopf documented the 2025 trip on film. From his footage, a 40-minute film was created that captures the impressions, encounters, and experiences of the journey.

On June 11, 2026, the time had come: his film was shown at the cinema in Bad Endorf. For us, this was a very special moment: Nyendo had actually made it to the cinema.

An honest look by a young person at a journey that moved him. The film shows what can happen when young people set out, look closely, listen, and allow themselves to be touched.

We are delighted by this wonderful initiative and thank Valentin Hopf for his perspective, his work, and his willingness to share this journey with others.
