We kicked off the 2024/25 school year in autumn with three events at once: a flea market, an open house, and an Advent bazaar. Waffles, Kenyan accessories, and coffee created a cheerful atmosphere – a heartfelt thank-you to the Merchant family for their support at the coffee bar! Thanks to many helping hands, we were able to support our partner schools in Kenya with a generous donation.
In January, the Nyendo network held its four-day retreat on Fraueninsel. Alongside workshops on marketing and organization, the direct exchange with the schools in Nairobi was a moving highlight.
We started the new year with great motivation: the 11th graders prepared for their trip to Kenya, while our Valentine’s Day muffin and cake sale made its debut – and has been held weekly ever since. Planning for the summer festival also began: jewelry, coffee, and, for the first time, Kenyan pastries were on the program. Six 10th grade students even completed a barista course at Merchant & Friends in preparation.
The summer festival itself, with its fundraising run around the school grounds, became the highlight of the year. Many participants – including alumni – joined in enthusiastically. Altogether, nearly €2,000 was raised for an art project in Nairobi.
Whether muffins, mandazi, or marathon laps – none of this would have been possible without you! Thank you to all donors, runners, supporters, and to our supervisors, Ms. Callies and Ms. Schumann. With the smiles of the children in Kenya before our eyes, we look forward with joy to the coming year!
