Good afternoon from sunny Nairobi!
I am just back from a good days work in the sun at KYC and wanted to share some photos of the gardens as they look today. The cabbages are HUGE, the sukuma wiki (Swahilli for „push through the week“) is very healthy. However, we have got bad news on the tomatoes which have been affected by ‚blight‘ caused by lots of rain followed by cold. 🙁 …. ah well not to worry – it is our work to understand the plants, soils and climate. So, every day is a lesson learned !
The school children of KYC (300) are now getting fresh vegetables in their Githeri lunch x 3 a week which for a 4 month old project is not bad going !

Last Friday, we also started the first of the proposed ’social business‘ trainings organized by a team from ‚Real Stars“. This was held with all the teachers from the various schools. Two of our parent team members took part. These will continue for another 5 weeks and ensure that we are better prepared for the long term vision for this project.
Today we also made the walk to Kanyarosha school for the first site visit. We hope to start designing the school gardens next Monday … Fingers crossed and I will be sending photos as we go!
Thank you again and again for your continued support of this amazing project – for without your efforts and energy none of this would have been possible
